Ever since I became a software engineer, I seem to observe that there have always been attempts to get rid of us software engineers. I have always come across various articles in the media proclaiming this or that technology is going to make software engineers obsolete, and that our days are numbered.
Perhaps this is because some people think that we are a bunch of "overpaid smartasses”. They think getting rid of us would save companies a lot of money and headache. These are probably the same type of people who think software engineering is all about writing a bunch of if-then statements and for-loops. So what could be so difficult about it? Why are all these software engineers getting paid so much?
Well, if you’ve read my book so far, I don’t think I need to explain this to you at this point. As it turns out, us software engineers are not such easily replaceable cogs.
